Indian Premier League 2014
concluded with a cracker of a final on 1st June at Bangaluru’s M
Chinnaswamy Stadium. Inspired Kolkata Knight Riders came out as the worthy
winner of the tournament defeating a thrilling Kings XI Punjab side in a high
scoring nail-biter finish. This match was special in the way that two Indian
talents made their mark and defined the course of the game. Congratulations to
Wriddhiman Saha for a wonderful century in the grand finale and to Manish
Pandey for a gutsy inning under pressure.
So what was special about this
edition of IPL? Batting? Bowling? Fielding? Performance of Indian players? Well
every edition of IPL has witnessed exceptional performances. Every edition of
IPL has set a higher standard for players. What was special this time around
was the success of the tournament despite being in the corruption gloom.
Before the start of IPL this
year, there were some serious accusations being cast on the existence of the
tournament due to betting scandal and match-fixing reported last year. There
was worry around scheduling the first leg of tournament in the abandoned parts
of cricket world-Sharjah and Dubai. The administrators had a huge task at their
hand and the fans were disappointed. As this tournament ends as clean and successful one, it is a massive relief to the administrators and
fans alike. IPL is a significant
tournament. It brings cricketing talents from across the globe and provides
them with a platform to display their aptitude and flair. It encourages Indian
cricket to grow. And, more than one and half month of thrill and fun is a
guarantee for the fans courtesy IPL.
As far as I am concerned, I like
this tourney a lot. It becomes such a pastime for 40 odd days that I lookout for
things to do once it is over. I am sure; I am not the only one with this
feeling. Favorite cricketers putting on brilliant performances, less known
cricketers competing successfully against the best in the business, finest commentators
giving their analysis, well it is hard to have all this without IPL.
I am looking forward to the
Indian Premier League 2015 for much more fun and action. Let us hope that the
administrators and the players will safeguard the game of cricket from ugly troubles
of corruption. Let us hope that we’ll be enthralled by some of the most
stupendous cricketing action in the upcoming editions of the IPL.
